How to lose weight during Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner?

23 dishes for CNY reunion dinner ... I can never lose weight during CNY!
  • This post is bout my family CNY reunion dinner ...
  • All my relatives will gather at my Uncle's place for reunion dinner as we normally takes turn to host the reunion dinner every year. Previously was at my parent's house.
  • Basically, I love the reunion dinner a lot .... not just the food and gambling session is important to me but the harmony in the family is the most important .... it is like an annual gathering for my entire Tay's family to gather and chat with each other.
  • How nice if my aunt's and uncle's from US and UK back for this CNY reunion dinner ... will be a much merrier reunion dinner.
  • My reunion dinner is very a special occasion .... every of each family will cook their own dishes and bring it over to the host house. Mostly it will be home cooked dishes.
  • As usual, my family favourite dishes will be my mom's cooking (Mee Siam, Har Lok Prawns & Hokkien Noodles) ... sure sapu habis one!

Before the lou sang and the dinner....every of us helped out to setup the place .... Bout the wine bottle ... two wine bottles brought by my sis from aussie ... a 1998 wine ... very smooth and nice to drink. My reunion dinner will start with the family lou sang ... is a must tradition in my family.

My family is full of different nationality.... my aunts love to married to kwai lou people ... my family consist of aussies, austrians, british, americans, malay and indonesia chinese. We have wine, champagne, beers and shandy .... must get tipsy before the gambling session ... so that when everyone is high, they will put in more monopoly money in!!!

The Maestro Chef - Mr. Robert ....
  • Robert brought the beef and pork directly from Australia to be cooked at my uncle's place.
  • He is a good chef cause he works as a restaurant manager in Quay Restaurant. He shows us his cooking skill by roasting the beef and pork with his own recipe .... walaueh .... taste superbly nice cause I can smell it from outside the gate. The meat is superbly nice to eat!
  • Another reason for my sis to gain more weight!

Early morning, brought Robert to Tesco Puchong to shop for his sauce recipe and the ingredients. Thanks to him for bringing the pork and beef all the way from Sydney. No wonder his luggage is superbly heavy. Look at the juicy beef .... no wonder my sis is gaining weight and his restaurant bagged another top fine dining award in Australia!

The FOOD ...

  • Yes, 23 dishes for this year ... cause this year, we have Western foods in my reunion dinner!
  • Western Dishes: Potato Salad, Macaroni, Lasagne, Roast Pork, Roast Beef, Mixed Potato and Onion Salad.
  • Chinese Dishes: Curry Fish, Goose Meat, Duck Meat, Mee Siam, Prawns, Eggs, Mushroom Brocoli with Abalone, Sea Cucumber, Fried Fish, Eggs, Meat Ball, Char Siew, Acar, Mixed Vege in Yam basket, Hokkien Noodle, Fried Yam and Curry Chicken.

My mom's mee siam ... was suggesting to my mom to sell her mee siam but she say she is too lazy to cook and do business.

I can't imagine I went for two rounds for the 23 dishes .....

Char Siew and Lasagne .... I took it few rounds ... small bite ... the tao pao back and wallop it finish. Bad for my cholesterol and fats level ...damn it .... eat first, regret later!

The Best Part - Gambling session ...
  • After heavy food and drinks ... it is time for some fun to make extra wealth.
  • Another of my family tradition ... is card games .... normally we play mahjong, black jack and 9 points. But for this CNY reunion dinner, we played black jack.
  • Given the honor to become the banker for Black Jack cause I am very good in dealing black jack cards.
  • 1st half:- I got a good few rounds at the beginning getting black jack.
  • Halftime break:- We took a break for Ang Pow distribution. Took a break to eat desserts and rejuvenate myself. Summary:- After 1 1/2 hour of the first session .... I did not earn anything ... my capital remains the same.
  • 2nd half:- Warn the players that I've sharpen my hand liow and ready to slaughter during the second half ... From 10 players and one by one seems quitting from the table .... my luck was on the rollthou according to the feng shui review for Goat people will be very bad luck. Summary:- After 1 hour, left 3 players at the end .... banker make a big winning end of the day.
  • Final summary:-
    1. Double A's gotten by Aunty Irene, I need to pay her tripple.
    2. Ben (my younger brother) got the first 5 cards show hand, I need to pay double to him.
    3. First 5 cards for 21 strike by me.
    4. 3 times in a row I got black jack.
    5. Big winner - Banker ... Big winner for Player - Michael which he manage to earn monopoly money RM 2. He got very lucky at the last bet which he strike a 21.
  • Curious to know how much we play..... Min. bet monopoly money RM1 and no. max bet.

Despite everyone losing ...we have a good laugh and fun. After 2 1/2 hrs of dealing cards, my finger feeling the pain after the game. Dear police, remember it is monopoly money used in the game!

Sis back from Sydney for CNY ...
  • 23rd Jan, my sis and Robert landed at Msia .... they will be staying at my place for 2 weeks.
  • Glad and happy that my sis and Robert came back to Msia to celebrate CNY at here.
  • Brought them to try some local msia food since my sis miss the msia food so much.
  • As usual, my sis is a party queen as seen in facebook .... brought her to Future @ Zouk.

Brought Robert to try local foods and he seems to enjoy the spicy and msia food a lot. My dad brought him to eat durian and he likes it too. Honestly, I told my sister that she is getting fat and fatter and make sure she control her eating ... hehehe.

Pan Mee at Noodles Village @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

My pan mee experience ...
  • It seems that this Noodle Village restaurant has improved their food taste and customer service.
  • I had a horrible experience when this shop first opened in few years back ...there is a broken plastic spoon in my curry pan mee and the staff did not apologize at all.
  • This is my second re-visit to this restaurant after few years.
  • Not to say it is a great pan mee they served ... but lots of pan mee variety they offered.
  • Price for a bowl of pan mee at here is not cheap too.
  • Pics taken by my Samsung Omnia.

Top pic: Loh pan mee .... not bad taste and taste quite nice with the thick gravy. What's your comment for those who tried it here before?

Korean BBQ experience at Restaurant Daorae @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Original Korean BBQ experience ...
  • Greeted by the owner with a smile ... here is my 3rd re-visit. The first time, the owner served us a free pan cake to try.
  • Very friendly and efficient customer service.
  • The food here is very delicious ... seriously yummy! Till now, I am not bored eating korean bbq.
  • The other best Korean BBQ restaurant is at Korean Village at Ampang there....not sure the name of it ... it was one of yve's korean friend who brought us there to eat.
  • Pics taken by Samsung Omnia.

Okay, don't get shocked ... the amount of food shown in here is for two person .... the seafood kim chi soup is very good and delicious. What I like bout korean bbq is that the side dishes is free re-fillable. They got bali-tong ... yum yum...refill it many times.

We ordered the pork and beef marinated meat ... it was huge portion .... luckily we manage to finish it. Eating korean bbq is not cheap...so u can expect the price for it....but is worth it!

Great Eastern Run 2009 Event Day Pictures

Great Eastern 20km & 30km Run ....
  • Thanks to PMTEY for the pics .... took from his multiply site. You may view more pics from his website.
  • Yeah, many people suffer cramp and muscle pull .... I am one of the victim ... luckily manage to crawl to the finish line.

Me versus the Kenya runners at the start of the race ... starting at the launch, equally the same level ... after few hundred meters ... they are gone in a distance.

Restaurant Kong Sai at Bandar Puteri Puchong

My chicken dinner @ Bandar Puteri Puchong ...
  • Lots of new restaurant coming up in Bandar Puteri Puchong.
  • One of my friend recommend me to this chicken rice restaurant....this restaurant served chicken from bukit mertajam.
  • Me and yve decided to try ... damn, lots of people again since it is famous. We manage to get a table after waited for few minutes.
  • Pics taken by my Samsung Omnia...not bad quality it seems for a night shot.

They put table until road side like mamak stall and is fully seated .... happening leh for a chicken rice stall. Other than that, they served some other side dishes and soups. No regrets dining at this restaurant...very nice white chicken and the meat is soft and easy to swallow with the unique sauce. The only thing I am dissapointed is the rice itself...they served white rice!

Sao Gong Zao Part 2

Yum Seng!!!!
  • Every few minutes...sure got yum seng one.
  • The motive is to get a people to get drunk only and show his stupidity act! kekeke.

This time I did not threw up and control my alcohol intake cause i got bloody 20km run on the last weekend.

Karaok Queens & Kings ...
  • ISD got lots of hidden talents...
  • All can sing very well .... seriously.

Behind the scenes ...
  • With the alcohol effect ... now everyone is showing their true colors!

Yu Jia Village restaurant

ISD Year End Work Closing Dinner (Sao Gong Zao) ...
  • Coming to the year end of chinese new year for 2008 .... the on-demand gang of my IT dept has planned for this work closing dinner.
  • Previous year, it was hell lots of fun and drunkers ... my first time in my life got drunk by drinking wine and not hard liquor!
  • The main motive of this dinner is that we gather together & laugh out n enjoy to the max by singing karaok, chit chatting and drinking!
  • This dinner will be my one of sweet memory of my lifetime during my working life at my current company now.

Took some snap shots of the restaurant as this is my first time dining at here....very nice restaurant introduced by Chee Keong.

The OD Gang members...

  • OD members:- Frances, Wai Yee, Peng Tuck, Ah Choy, Ronan, Yew Li, Ling Ling, Chee Keong, Ah Loy, Chia Huey, Jason, Vincent, Thomas & May, Chee Keong, Goh, Raymond, Christie, Janice & Via.

Cheers everyone from the OD gang...

The main food ... WINE & Hard Liquor

  • This year we have 12 bottles of wine compare to previous year where we had 17 bottles. But this time we had hard liquor.
  • This time no drunkers as we learn from our previous dinner lesson ... thou we got high ... thanks to the wine combination with hard liquor ...bad mixed!

Before the dinner started and arrival of guest .... we start to toast and drink ... all this alcoholic people!....hehehe.

Yee Sang with abalone and salmon ....
  • My first lou sang for the year!

Very nice yee sang served by the restaurant ... really yummy ler!

I must say the food served here is very tasty but very small portion ler.... end of the night, everyone still feel hungry. My fav dish is the fish instead of the shark fin .... the fish is very fresh and the meat is so tender. The bill came up to RM 2145 for 19pax ....worth?

Tak Fok restaurant

Famous for cheap and fresh crab.... RM 18 per kg!
  • As for my medal reward, treated myself with crabs ... been wanting to eat crabs for a long time.
  • This is my all time favourite crab restaurant ... brought my parent, friends, clients and colleagues to here and they came back to eat here by themself.
  • As usual, for famous restaurant... u need to go there early.... I arrive there bout 5.45pm and luckily got a table for me and yve.
  • This restaurant is situated at Desa Aman Puri, Kepong.

Crab-licious .... must ordered their signature fried seafood taufu .... yummy ler! I love their cheese sauce .... really lick the bowl cleanly with my spoon. In fact, too much food for two person ... my stomach bloated after the meal.

Hong Kong dim sum as my reward

After my 20km run, have a heavy breakfast as a reward...
  • Yve treated this breakfast after looking at my pityful condition ...
  • This is my second visit to this dim sum restaurant at bandar puteri puchong.
  • Wat so special bout this restaurant? - I would say the freshness and the variety and not the price.

The lou ma kai (rice) and the char siew pau (buns) taste so so only....they could have done better with the taste.

With all the food above...i pay RM 34 for it...cheap or expensive? overall the food here taste nice ... the chef came from a well-known hotel and setup his own small business here.

Great Eastern 20km Run 2009 review

My first finisher 20km medal ... THANK YOUR FOR YOUR WISHES & SUPPORT!
  • NO PAIN NO GAIN...
  • My fellow blog friends & friends, thanks for your support and ur good luck wishes .... really give me the extra boost to push myself to the limit. Really happy to read the comments and the cbox ... seriously feel happy and did not dissapoint u all!
  • Yes, I am delighted to cross over the line within the qualification time with my cramped legs and got my first ever finisher medal after participating in two 10km runs! This is my first 20km run and I really enjoy it.
  • Finished my 20km run in 2hrs 15mins+- ... can't believe myself that I got the stamina and energy to achieve this result.
  • I could have done better with my timing if I did not suffer leg cramp and blister at my final 1 km .... I walked for 800 meters before start pushing myself till the finish line.
  • My agenda:-
3.45am - woke up and bath
4am - breakfast (2 sausage buns and water)
    4.15am - do big business
    4.30am - left house
    4.50am - arrived lake garden
5.30am - meet up with Johny
    6.15am - warm up
    6.30am - flag off for 20km
    8.45am - finish my race
9.50am - left the place after much rest

My first finisher medal ..it's a pewter...nice kan? ... I am so happy with it and now I will aim for 10km finisher medal and hopefully will get for 15km, 30km and 42km medal as well! I want to dedicate this medal to my blogger friends who supported me, readers and yve!
  • Overall, the event was well organized by Pacesetters. Lots of freebies such as drinks, fruits and free half cut power bar and etc. Oh yeah, got hot dog and cendol somemore!
  • The run was very tough with lots of up hills and high elevation. I saw many people suffered cramp and being stretched off into the ambulance bout 12 - 15km ... really scary if i suffered during that distance.
  • I just used up one power gel instead of 3. I did stop and walk at 1hr 30 mins mark to rest myself and walk for 3 times for 30 secs before continue my race.
  • My strategy:-
    1. slow jog till the 4th km
    2. normal jog pace till 10th km
    3. slow jog till the 15th km
    4. rest and walk before start normal pace again.
    5. last 1 km, suppose to sprint to the finish line but suffered cramp...instead walk and slow jog for the last 200 meters.
  • Thou I still can't believe myself how I complete the race with one training (8km run) since back from my holiday and my additional weight ... how I wish i am 77kg now!
  • I paid my price for it ..... My condition now is very bad and pain! I need 3-5 days to recover as my thigh and ankle is hurting me badly .... walking like a orang cacat with bandage on my ankle....then need to walk sideways on the staircase.
  • Thanks to you all once again for your support. It's a great start for my year 2009!

Great Eastern Pacesetters 2009

Pay to suffer ... Wish Me Luck ...
  • Tomorrow is my d-day and I am feeling worried compared to my previous 10 km runs. Furthermore, this is a 20km run for me.
  • Probably this time I am not that well prepared and I trained once since I am back from Taiwan holiday. Plus with my additional weight sumore.
  • My aim is to complete it and will be a big achievement if I able to complete it within the qualification time of 2 hrs 30 mins.
  • Got to go to bed now and wake up at 3.45 am! The race is 6.30am.

Bought some power bars to prepare myself during the race to give me the extra boost. Hopefully I won't suffer cramp during the run.

Taiwan Trip - Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung, second largest city in Taiwan ...
  • My day 6 of my taiwan holiday were at Kaohsiung.
  • Visited many places at Kaohsiung such as Former British Consulate at Takao, Liouho Night Market, Love River, Zuoying's Lotus Lake, Urban Spotlight Arcade and others.
  • Will post more bout it later on.

Arrived at Kaohsiung with the so called Speed train (not bullet train yeah!) ... then checked into Kingstown Hotel. Yeah, went and visited and do some window shopping in their shopping malls.
  • Kaohsiung is a city located in southwestern Taiwan. It is enclosed by the Kaohsiung County, and faces the Taiwan Strait on the west.
  • As one of two Direct-controlled municipalities under the administration of Republic of China, Kaohsiung is officially named as the Kaohsiung City, a province-level political division. It is divided into eleven districts, each with an office.
  • Kaohsiung is the most densely populated and the second largest city in Taiwan, with a population around 1.5 million.

My lunch ... not really good!

  • Walked to a nearby food stall near our hotel ... I ordered a curry fried rice and noodlee soup. The curry fried rice is a bit dry and it is a bit hard to eat.
  • The owner give us some orange fruits to try ... told u, they are very friendly and love to ask u to try their food.

Sometimes yummy looking foods can be deceiving .... very normal taste for these local dishes.

This is one of the main shopping attraction ... DREAM MALL .... cause got a fun park and huge ferris wheel on top of their roof top.

My dinner @ Dream Mall ...

  • Oh yeah, shopping mall foods taste better compare to my lunch ones.
Must admit that their price is definitely expensive compare to outside stalls.

I love their fruits a lot ... fresh and sweet ....

Their bbq pork taste so nice ... and a bit oily ...but who cares...very nice to eat .... and my sui kow noodles .... finally got to eat sui kow at Taiwan!

Mount Alishan

Cold experience at Mount Alishan ...
  • Day 5 ... from Sun Moon Lake to Mt. Alishan requires 3 hours by mini van ... it is a long winding road to the top there.
  • It was a trip to remember that I had a bad seafood experience as my dinner. Will classified it as stinky seafood and taste worse than stinky taufu ... imagine ur long kang water behind ur house and the smell is 10 times stronger!

The 'yao yeng' traveller!... no need introduction.

I did not have a good sleep at Alishan cause of the cold weather during the night. Thou it provide super thick and heavy blanket ... it still feel so cold in the room. Imagine going to pee middle of the night ... will be shivering and pee water turn to ice .... hahaha (too exagerate already). Bottom right pic: That is the starbucks cafe!...nice rite...nearly same price as our Msia starbucks!

  • The Alishan National Scenic Area is a mountain resort and natural preserve located in the mountains of Chiayi County in Taiwan.
  • It is 415 km² in area. It includes, among other things, mountain wilderness, four villages, waterfalls, high altitude tea plantations, the Alishan Forest Railway and several hiking trails.
  • The area is popular among tourists and mountain climbers, and Alishan or Mount Ali itself has become one of the major landmarks associated with Taiwan.
  • The area is also famous for its production of high mountain tea and wasabi.

I din know that the hike to the reserve park in Alishan would take 1 1/2 hrs to complete it ... hiking without water supply is a bad choice ... anyway, very nice to see the nature and some woods structure esp the heart shape and the pig looking alike.

This is the best thing I enjoyed at Alishan....sunset view ... very nice to see the clouds covering the mountains and the sea of clouds.

I love their Mr. Brown coffee ... every morning will have this coffee... I love their spicy big pau .... big pau with small spicy meat in it .... need to eat two of those to feel full. Top left pic: Looks like corn and suppose to taste like corn right...u r wrong ... it is a re-engineered corn .... it is a Rice Corn with rice in it!

The stinky steamboat dinner ...
  • Dont't judge the book by its cover.
  • I am so happy that the steamboat looks so delicious ... wait till u eat it and smell it!
  • Other dishes were ok esp the chicken .... very nice.

Bottom left pic: How wrong can a steamboat taste gone? Expecting the soup will taste like Msia one ... but damn it, it taste like drain water .... damn it....not able to eat all.... feel like puking. This is the worst food in Taiwan I've encountered!

Meet up with Brian and Cherlyn

At Little Penang Kafe, KLCC ...
  • The gathering for Brian and Cherlyn will be on this coming 16th Jan, Friday @ Steven's Corner, OUG.
  • Worrying that I not able to meet with Brian & Cherlyn before they flying back to UK .... better to meet them earlier.

Brian and Cherlyn did not change much ... but looks younger and fresher (probably is the UK air and weather there) .... hehehe.
  • On the weekday, we decided a last minute meet up at KLCC .... brought them to Little Penang Kafe.
  • Lastly, thanks for the lovely gift.

As usual during lunch time, the queue is long but luckily we went there early. Very nice food they served there ....

My lunch, tea break, dinner and supper at Sun Moon lake

Warning! food post yeah ... be prepared.

My breakfast ...

Very nice western breakfast meal prepared by the owner's mom early in the morning. If not enough, can add somemore!

My lunch ...

Went to this restaurant just opposite the guest house. The owner recommended this restaurant to us as they served quite delicious local taiwan food. The restaurant owner also got shocked that I able to eat so much rice ... 4 bowls again .... luckily their rice is re-fillable...kekeke. The food here is delicious and fresh. Cost NTD 800 (RM93.00) for 4 dishes and a soup.

My tea time ...

This is the best tea break I ever had .... cause eating and can see a nice scenery ... like in western country only. Mana tau, still at Asia country - Taiwan...

Delicious looking and mouth watering dessert a not???

My dinner ...

This is cooked by the owner's maid from indonesia .... damn it....she can speak better mandarin than me and can cook all this dishes. Don't worry, had 3 bowls of rice only and not 4 bowls ... I am a really 'farn tong'.
My supper ...

Ok, my final meal of the night at Sun Moon lake which is taiwanese instant noodle ... must be the cold weather out there which helps me to burn my calories and making me feeling hungry very fast ler.... is an excuse only.
